Issues

Our nation is facing some significant challenges from international relations (reimagining trade agreements, including tariffs, war) to domestic social policy. In his second and final term, President Donald J. Trump has led the charge to increase American independence and fairness with trade partners. I commit to helping the President codify efficiency and effectiveness in government operations. Ensuring our borders are secure today and for years to come. Protecting parental rights to make important life decisions about minor children (healthcare, informed consent, and education). All this while adhering to the rule of law, the letter and spirit of the Constitution of these United States and its enumerated obligations by taking the oath of office as a U.S. Senator. Frequently Asked Questions

How would you try to change the federal budget, including tax rates and spending? I’m fiscally conservative. I plan to push for a balanced budget. I support the Reganesque call for no new spending and no new taxes until we get our house in order and assess the impact(s) of what we are already spending. I also support pay for performance in healthcare (Medicaid and Medicare dollars) and education. From which departments do you want to decrease or increase spending? I’ve read Project 2025 and its plan to shrink government. I agree with some parts and disagree with others. We need to shrink redundancies in government offices, and agencies need to do more collaboration to drive outcomes of their programs. Some programs need to sunset when their missions are complete. But they must operate with the aim of solving the problem rather than existing forever. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has done some analysis on departments within the executive branch. I need to see the DOGE analysis of each department/program. I’m of the position that we do not need more spending in any department until we better understand how the dollars that were already spent have been used. Efficiencies should be codified into executive orders and, if appropriate, legislation. Do you want to decrease or increase gifts to foreign countries and state and local governments? There should be no “gifts.” We overall need to do a better job monitoring the outcomes of our investments. Everyone has used our federal government as a teat. We cannot have smaller government when everyone (including companies) is dependent upon us. I support restricting dollars to Ukraine and doing more assessment of foreign aid overall. We can certainly help those in need but need to be clear about how those dollars are used. For example, I do not support US dollars being used for gender affirming care in foreign countries, nor in our own. How do you plan to change the income tax code, including rates, credits, deductions, and exemptions? I can appreciate the recent House push for a $40K SALT cap in the One Big Beautiful Bill. I can also appreciate the concerns Senators have expressed about the mid- to long-term consequences for future generations. Getting the balance right will require collaboration with economic advisors and forecasters. Given that the Illinois legislature just passed a bill to tax every kind of service, plus deliveries, I support the cap being lifted to as high as possible. I think renters should be able to also write of the portion of the $40K that fits the amount included in their rental payments. I have long advocated for an elimination of federal income tax and replacement with a consumption tax. I propose exclusions of all basic life necessities (food, shelter, clothing, grooming/hygiene, health and wellbeing services and products, to name a few). I am also proposing exemptions for times of life. For example, new parents for a period after birth of their child, new graduates, starting a business, etc. My concept of a consumption tax challenges with what the Illinois state legislature just passed to tax everything from haircuts to each home delivery. I like the idea of the MAGA baby accounts. Americans say that affordability is the main reason they limit their family size. We need more Americans born and raised within our borders. What are your views on abortion? I’m pro-life. Regardless of the circumstances of conception, a baby is no less a baby. A baby deserves to live. We should support pregnant women who conceive children via rape or incest. The Supreme Court returned abortion access to the states. We may struggle to find the constitutional basis for federal laws limiting abortion access UNLESS a good argument can be made that an unborn child is also a beneficiary of the Bill of Rights. Thus making the pre-born child’s “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” a national jurisdiction. I’ve yet to hear anyone make that argument. Do you support reparations for descendants of U.S. slaves or any other group? I support the First Amendment right to air grievances with the government and receive redress for harms caused or allowed by the government. I agree with Assistant Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, that there should be redress to correct the negative outcomes from replacement via mass legal and illegal immigration. The negative outcomes include depressed wages, Americans training their foreign replacements, firing of American workers without just cause, incarceration, and civil rights violations. I agree that there should be redress for harms to the founding Black American population (who endured chattel slavery followed by 100 years of unconstitutional “Jim Crow” discrimination). My concept of reparations is about efficient and effective investments in the surviving families. This targeted and monitored approach would neutralize the "DEI" push to make everyone a minority, reign in the free for all of giveaways, it would not include "black" people who migrated here, nor anyone else. Neither of these reparatory claims are likely to happen during my tenure in the U.S. Senate. But there is a solid fiscal case to design and implement them. There is also a case for adherence to conservative principles in delivery of those Americans First corrections for the generations of poor public policy. What are your views on immigration? The campaign website and years of my writings show that I am for zero illegal immigration and no amnesty for illegal immigration. Mass deportations have merit and need to align with the rule of law. We need less reliance on legal immigration. We need to design a native born labor sourcing plan/pipeline and talent management strategy. Should the border wall be finished? Yes. The 2006 Secure Fence Act mandates completion of a border wall. The border should also be militarized as needed for national security interests. What should happen to current illegal aliens? No amnesty. We must implement consequences to slow the tide of illegal aliens. This can include fines and other consequences for countries that have repeat offenses. Should children of illegal aliens or legally present visitors get 14th amendment birthright citizenship? No. The Reconstruction-era 14th amendment did not include aliens nor those without permanent legal domicile. Birthright citizenship is for the emancipated U.S. slaves, free Negroes of that time, and the current descendants of the same. There should be no birthright citizenship for children of tourists and visitors. They should get a certificate of live birth that is stamped “Not valid for U.S. citizenship.” This will require federal-state partnership to implement. What additional questions do you have?
